What The Prosecutors Office does

The Floyd County Prosecutor is charged with the responsibility of representing the State of Indiana in all felony and misdemeanor criminal prosecutions resulting from criminal activity within Floyd County, Indiana. Juvenile violations, all traffic offenses, and other infraction violations of state law within Floyd County are handled by this office.In addition, the Office of the Floyd County Prosecutor is responsible for enforcing certain child support court orders through its Title IV-D Child Support Division.

Investigators

Chad Kessinger, Chief Investigator

Chad began his career in law enforcement in 1994 with the Louisville Division of Police and then with the newly merged Louisville Metro Police Department.He served in various positions including patrol, district detective, flex detective, street crimes detective and a former member of LMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactic’s Team (SWAT). Chad was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and commanded units in the Patrol Bureau, Basic Training Unit, and Public Integrity Unit. He was assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Public Corruption Task Force while working as an investigator in Public Integrity. Chad was promoted to Lieutenant and served in both operational and administrative command roles in LMPD’s Fourth Division. Chad Kessinger is part of a continuing family line of law enforcement professionals. Together his family has dedicated over 149 years of service to the community.  

Administrative Staff

The administrative staff for the Office of the Floyd County Prosecutor manages the day-to-day workings of the office and ensures that our organization is able to operate efficiently with a high level of quality performance and professionalism. Our administrative staff can assist you with general questions, as well as with our Infraction Deferral Program.
